Eligibility Requirements for UNSW Scholarships

In order to be considered for a scholarship at UNSW, applicants must meet the requirements outlined in the Admission to Higher Degree Research Programs Procedure and Higher Degree Research Scholarships Procedure at the time of application.

To ensure consideration, applicants must submit a complete application along with all the necessary supporting documentation before the relevant scholarship deadline. This includes providing transcripts for all previous degrees, a financial declaration, the agreement of a supervisor or the outcome of an Expression of Interest (EOI), satisfactory proof of English proficiency (requests for English Waivers must be fully approved by the deadline), and any requests for special consideration (e.g., a request for a part-time scholarship as described in Section 3.4.2). All documents must be in English or accompanied by an English translation from an accepted translator.

If an applicant is currently in the process of completing a degree, their application may be assessed based on a prediction of their final marks. However, the final marks must be confirmed once the degree is completed.

Applicants cannot be considered for a UNSW HDR Scholarship if they are already receiving funding from any other source, including UNSW and the Australian Government, that provides:

  1. An equivalent scholarship covering living expenses and/or tuition fees.
  2. Income (such as another scholarship) that supports their enrollment if the income exceeds 75% of the primary scholarship rate. (Note that income unrelated to the HDR program is not taken into account.)
